OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COMMUNITY

Wakari Housing is always part of the community wherever our operations are and beyond. We invest in people and communities at large. Our social responsibility impact is largely being created through;

  • Wakari Apprenticeship Program (WAP).
  • The Green Cities Initiative

Wakari Apprenticeship Program (WAP)

We recognise the skills gap among the youth in Uganda; We are also cognisant of the urgent need to create more employment opportunities for our young people. It is on this basis that we launched the Wakari Apprenticeship Program (WAP).

WAP is an initiative through which youth without clear formal training are identified, trained on job, to attain key housing-sector related skills in areas of Landscaping (Design & Installation), Pottery, Welding, Painting, and Brokerage.  Besides the hands-on skills, all trainees are equiped with extra knowledge on Financial Management, Project Management, Customer Service, Marketing, and Administration.

Effective 2020, WAP has been formally structured into training cohorts where each cohort is schedulled to run for six months. Cohort 1 starts on 1st June 2020. 30 students will  be trained under this Cohort.

All our trainees since inception work with the company as Sub-Contractors, Casual Workers and and two will effective 1st April 2020 join the team as fulltime staff, in our design and planning division.

The Green Cities Initiative

Climate change is real, and the effects can no longer be underestimated. We are using our influence in the planning sector to enhance urban conservation as a means of mitigating climate change effects, and as well enable urban climate change adaptability for Uganda’s regional cities, municipalities, and town councils.

What we are doing…

  • We advocate for more green spaces on individual housing projects.
  • We offer volunteer services in designing urban green spaces for municipalities and other small towns that have challenges in meeting their cost of Physical planning.
  • Through partnerships, we run urban conservation campaigns in our community.
  • We speak to our clients about the need to embrace green building technologies and solutions.
  • We are championing the formation of housing clubs as a means of enhancing access to affordable and organized homes for the urban low income earners; and increasing neighbourhood planning.
